Global Campus Recruiter
According to Chris Talley, he works for a company that provides the ultimate service — nourishment from birth to the very end of life — and by his estimation, that’s the very best career to be in. Food service provider Aramark dishes up food and hospitality across 22 countries, working in hospitals, stadiums, businesses, parks and universities. “Aramark’s mission statement is ‘to deliver experiences that enrich and nourish lives’ — and to me, there’s nothing better than tapping into my passion for helping and nourishing people,” says Talley, now a global campus recruiter for Aramark.
How did your background lead you to Aramark?
I thought I was going to be a musician — until I figured out how long it might take to be successful! So I went to Penn State for business management. It didn’t take long to figure out that I loved being the boss, but that business didn’t tap into my passion for talking to and helping people. Before a professor told me about Aramark, my only exposure came from employees wearing hats with the logo down at the ballpark.
What attracted you to Aramark, and how did you get started?
The potential for good work/life balance, and the opportunity to serve others. And once I’d started my first internship for Aramark in Texas, I learned that I loved the hands-on exposure to the business. I made about 1,500 slices of bacon every morning for that job!
Talk more about the different exposure you’ve gotten at Aramark.
I have a real passion for numbers, and was able to work as a finance account specialist and conduct trainings for new hires — that was awesome, as was managing my first team. I also love getting to speak about Aramark in front of a lot of audiences. Maybe it helped that I wanted to be an actor as a kid!
What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?
I love my job because I can help people. I worked my way up through the food service management ranks, and now I’m helping people figure out if Aramark is the right place for them via recruiting. I love serving others, and I just want to bring high value to Aramark while fulfilling that passion.
